As we now have closed the gate on the open season and finished harvesting, it is time to have a little break!
We have had a lovely open season with many familiar faces and lots of new faces too, all braving the exceptionally hot weather. We cannot believe we had the whole 6 weeks with very little wind and not a drop of rain! The plants did get stressed and unfortunately we think we may have lost quite a few, the Folgate particularly set seed early, hence we could not open until August 9th, as planned, and had to close the field and get on with harvesting. As a result of the extreme heat and no moisture the oils were down on last year, but the quality seems good, we will get it tested soon.
Our 4 evening events ( helped by the beautiful weather and sunsets) were a great success, it is so lovely to share the field in the evening when it seems to have a totally different atmosphere, listening to relaxing music, and enjoying the changing light.
Ian and I would like to thank the BBC Midlands Today for contacting us, and making a lovely film of Ian and the ‘Lav’ boys and our story, we could not have asked for more, and it certainly put our little farm in more people’s minds, and the visitors came as a result. It certainly was exciting when it was subsequently shown on BBC Breakfast too!!
While we are onto thanks, A big Thank you to everyone who visited, had a coffee, bought a product, and generally supported us, and from Ian and I, especially, a big thank you to our team of workers, ably led by Alex, for ALL the hard work they put in as we certainly could NOT do any of this on our own 💜💜
THE CAFE will be back OPEN each Saturday 10 – 4pm from September 19th, we really look forward to welcoming you all back very soon!
